Description:

1) Photo is truly handsome with an elegant mounting. Also included is an Uncle Sam top hat of the same style and age as the one worn by the pictured “Uncle Sam”. An unusually skilled studio image in the form of a cabinet card (photo), hand tinted. The card measures 5 ¼ x 8 ½”, the image nearly filling the card. Gentleman wears full “Uncle” costume, making an extremely convincing Uncle Sam. He wears a prominent top hat, white with blue band and white stars, identical to the one accompanying the image. The most extraordinary feature of this image is how it is mounted – which is behind an exact fitting piece of plate glass, with beveled edges, backed with gold, the front edge neatly notched every quarter inch. Neat spring-loaded 1881 patented brass stand. Remarkably artistic image of the icon of the Spanish American War. 2) The top hat measures 12" by 9 3/4" by 6 1/4". Hat is an excellent black one of the period, carefully covered in white (now cream) felt and given the requisite blue band with stars glued on. The inside sweat band is leather and the rest of the lining and structure is a stiff paper. On the very top of the inside is the makers stamp "Young Bros." and their addresses in New York City and Brooklyn. 3) The first Uncle Sam wood novelty pipe measures 5" height and the second measures 3 1/4" height. The two pipes have the same hand-carved design and coloring. The pipe is the bust of Uncle Sam with a top hat and a long pointed beard. The eyes are glass. There is also a metal and wood stand for display.

Rating Definition:

The items are all in good condition with minor wear and age damage. There is some discoloration on the wood pipes. The photo is prime.
