Late production 1898 Krag carbine, the receiver is marked "U.S./ MODEL 1898, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" followed by the serial number. It has a pinned fixed blade front sight, and tangent rear sight that is graduated to 1800 yards. The stock is the second pattern M1898 with the long forearm and handguard that is without the saddle ring and bar on the left side and a steel buttplate with empty cavity. The walnut stock has a boxed "JSA/ 1901" cartouche and a single script circle "P" proof in the pistol grip area, and directly behind the trigger guard is marked "34".

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal refurbished with approximately 30-40% of the faded dull arsenal blue finish remaining, pin prick pitting on the magazine cover and scattered flaking on the receiver. The stock is also fine with light scattered handling marks, a repair between the bolt handle and the magazine on the rights side and a small crack above the front trigger guard bow on the left side. The action is smooth and tight.
