Description:

1) The Admiral Dewey belt buckle measures 2 3/4" by 2", is a tongue & wreath style buckle in gilded cast brass, and has a portrait of Dewey surrounded by stars and his name underneath at center. There is also a tag with the buckle that describes it. 2) Measures 3 x 2”. This eagle plate was purchased from Bannermans in 1939, from the last of their massive inventory of S.A.W. relics they acquired from the government during and after the War. Belt plate is exactly the same as worn during the Civil War, up through the S.A.W. Using metal taken from the Maine wreck and a belt plate taken from the Maine wreck and using it as a pattern, Bannermans cast a few souvenir belt plates. Plate is standard tongue and wreath design with eagle on anchor at center, inside wreath of laurel. Nice, lustrous medium patina. Back of wreath stamped “Relic U.S.S. Maine”. There is also a tag with the buckle that describes the piece. 3) Probably given as favor to the most important attendees at Admiral Dewey’s New York Reception. 9 5/8” long, with removable metal scabbard, and brilliant 7 1/8” blade inscribed with “FACSIMILE OF ADMIRAL GEORGE DEWEY’S SWORD/PRESENTED TO HIM BY THE NATION”. Nickel plated brass scabbard with movable rings, with leaf pattern on one side.

Rating Definition:

The items are all in good condition with minor wear. The scabbard does have one dent near lower mount and is splitting on an edge.
