Description:

From the 6th Mass. Consignor reports his source identified the soldier as Joseph Hart who served with General Miles. Tunic has standard five brass button front (Massachusetts State Seal), low stand up collar with gilt brass crossed rifle insignia with 6 over I, white wool officer shoulder straps (detachable) with brass captains bars and single Mass cuff button each, four patch pockets with button flaps (the top two have boxed pleats on front), and boxed pleat down back. Cuffs have chevron facings. Label in neck is “A Shuman & Co. Boston”. Outer end of one shoulder strap frayed at edge. Tunic about mint. Trousers are mounted pattern, of the same material as the tunic, a fraction of a shade off from tunic. Waist has no belt loops, and only dark tin suspender and fly buttons. Has only two large frog-mouth pockets. Thick soft layers of padding on the faces of the inner thighs. Bottoms narrow to go in boot and have long vent with eight buttons to close. Fine set from the Massachusetts Volunteers.
