Manufactured 1863. The top of the barrel is marked: "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA", "COLTS / PATENT" is marked on the left side of the frame and "36 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. Pin front sight and hammer notch rear sight. The loading lever, frame and hammer are color casehardened, the trigger guard and back strap are silver plated and the remaining parts blue. Generally the "E" with the serial number indicated that it was to be set aside for factory engraving, however, this particular revolver was not engraved. Smooth one piece varnished grips. Matching serial number on the barrel, frame trigger guard and back strap. The wedge is mismatched (20805).The Model 1862 Police Revolver is considered by many collectors to be the most streamlined of all Colt Percussion revolvers.

Rating Definition:

Near fine. The barrel and cylinder have a crisp smooth blue/brown patina overall with some minor pitting on the muzzle. The loading lever and frame retain approximately 20% of the original faded case colors mostly in the protected areas with the balance having a smooth brownish mottled patina. The trigger guard retains approximately 30% silvered out original plating in the trigger guard bow and strong original silver on the front strap. The back strap retains strong original silver behind the hammer. The remaining brass surfaces have an aged patina. The grips are excellent, retaining approximately 97% original varnish, some wear on the right side lower edge and overall a few minor handling marks.
