Description:

Manufactured from 1859 to 1874, this pistol is the lowest serial number known at 26 and would have quite possibly been a first day production. The left side of frame marked "C. SHARPS/ PATENT 1859" around the hammer screw, right side "C. SHARP & Co / PHILADA. PA." and the matching serial number is marked on the butt and bottom of the barrel assembly. Blue finished barrels with a brass pin front sight and silver plated brass frame with the straight standing breech, groove rear sight, straight line grip juncture and barrel release on the underside. Checkered hammer with rotating pin, smooth spur trigger and deep relief floral pattern Gutta Percha grips. This pistol is reportedly from the Remington estate and the Locke collection (could not find in book) and has a brass collectors tag numbered "177". Complete in a handcrafted cedar glass lid case with brass hardware made by Tex-Star Woodworks.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel assembly retains approximately 40% of the original blue finish mixed with gray patina. There is some pin prick type pitting on the left side and in the muzzle area. The frame retains approximately 40% of the original silver while the exposed areas have an aged patina. The grips are excellent with a few minor dings and sharp carving. A portion of the right side frame marking is beginning to fade, otherwise the markings are clear. Mechanically excellent, the firing pin rotates properly. The case is excellent. A very nice low serial number production Sharps pepperbox.
