This is the Model of 1905, 4th Change manufactured from 1915 to 1942. This was the last variation and had the longest production run. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates, "38 S&W SPECIAL CTG" on the right side, "SMITH & WESSON" on the left, the left side of the top strap is marked ""UNITED STATES PROPERTY"" and the right side of the frame has the standard markings. The lower front of the frame is marked with several British proof marks. Fitted with smooth walnut grips and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% of the original parkerized finish with some high edge wear and a light drag line on the cylinder. The trigger and hammer retain 95% of the original bright case colors. The grips are very good with overall scattered minor dings and nicks. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent.

This model was produced for the Brazilian government in 1938, and has the Brazilian crest stamped on the right side of the frame. The designation "U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917" was not stamped on the butt of these models. The standard features remained the same. Blade front sight, notch rear, smooth oiled walnut grips numbered to the gun, and lanyard ring on the butt. Casehardened hammer and trigger with S&W logo on the left side of the frame. Serial number on the frame, barrel and cylinder all match. All markings are highlighted in white.

Excellent. 95% original blue finish remains on the barrel showing wear around the muzzle with scattered scratches and dings down the length. The frame retains around 90% original blue finish with an isolated patch of pin prick pitting between the top strap and the yoke while also showing some surface scratches and handling marks. The grips are very good showing casual pressure marks and scratches.
