This is an example of an early Colt Model 1909 DA Army revolver with the standard 5-1/2 inch barrel that is marked on top with the two-line Colt address and patent markings of 1884, 1900 and 1905. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT D.A. 45" and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" is on the underside. The side plate of the revolver on the left side has the Colt stylized "C" intertwined with the Rampant Colt behind the cylinder catch. The butt is marked: "U.S. / ARMY / MODEL /1909" in front of the lanyard loop and the serial number, "NO 48748", behind it. The ordnance inspector's initials "WPG" are stamped on the right side of the frame above the recoil shield. The ordnance sub-inspector's initials "R.A.C." are stamped on the rear of the cylinder, the right side of the frame on the upper rear corner directly above the grip and on the underside of the barrel just forward of the frame. The serial number is also stamped on the rear of the cylinder catch, the back side of the cylinder crane and on the inside of the frame. A small "P" proof mark is located on the bottom of the barrel just ahead of the sub-inspector stamp. The revolver has Colt's pre-WWI, high-polish, blued finish overall with the trigger, hammer and screws having a Colt heat blued finish with the sides of the hammer being polished. It has the standard military style smooth walnut grips with the case hardened lanyard loop on the bottom of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of bright original high polish blue finish with scattered light to moderate scratches. The grips are very fine with some pressure dents on the left grip and some minor scratches overall. Mechanically excellent.
