Description:

Winchester Model 1897 Trenchgun manufactured in 1943. The shotgun has a take-down receiver and low comb stock and is fitted with a four-hole hand guard/ bayonet adapter. The walnut stock and forend have a varnished finish and the stock is fitted with a sling swivel and black, hard-rubber checkered buttplate embossed with the WRA log. The barrel, receiver and hand guard/bayonet adapter have a commercial blue finish. The lower left side of the receiver is roll-stamped with "U.S." followed by the ordnance "Shell & Flame' insignia. The 'Shell & Flame' is stamped on the top of the barrel in front of the receiver. The left side of the stock is stamped with the final inspection mark "G.H.D." in a rectangle above the Ordnance escutcheon. The top of the barrel and receiver are stamped with oval WRA proofs and punch-dot marks. The barrel is dated "42", is bored "CYL" and has the standard WRA logo on the left side. The serial number is located on the underside of the barrel and receiver. The trenchgun is complete with a russet leather WWII production Model 1907 sling and a WRA Model 1917 Bayonet with WWI green leather scabbard. The bayonet is marked with the WRA logo and "1917" on the ricasso and has the original blue and parkerized finish.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The shotgun retains approximately 95% of the original commercial blue finish with high point wear on the receiver and handguard/bayonet adapter and scattered handling and storage marks. The stock and forearm have about 85% of the original varnish finish with moderate handling wear. All markings are crisp. The bayonet is in very good condition and retains about 85% of the blue and parkerized finish. The scabbard is in fine condition. A fine example of a desirable WWII Model 1897 Winchester Repeating Arms Trenchgun with bayonet and sling.
