A) Imperial Japanese Type 38 Rifle

Description:

The 6.5 mm, Type 38 was designed by famed arms inventor Kijiro Nambu and was adopted by Imperial Japan in 1905. The receiver is marked "38 Type" indicating its adoption during the 38th year of Meiji, and marked with the royal chrysanthemum, 25th series mark, serial number, and the stacked cannonball symbol of the Kokura Army Arsenal The wood is clearly stamped with two Kokura Army Arsenal marks and one Second Factory mark. The bolt handle, safety and floor plate are matched to the last three digits of the serial number. The firing pin and bayonet lug are unnumbered. The ejector and extractor are matched to the assembly number, 90. The bolt and cleaning rod are in the white. The floor plate release, trigger, ejector spring and rear sight leaf spring are straw finished. The remainder of the metal parts are blued.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with approximately 95% of the original finish remaining. There is some wear to the floor plate. The tip of the cleaning rod exhibits brown patina. The royal chrysanthemum is completely intact. The wood is in excellent original condition with clear inspection marks. There are some handling dents and bruises that are typically found on Japanese rifles.

Description:

The 7.7 mm, Type 99 was adopted by Imperial Japan in the 2,599th emperor Jimmu (1939). The receiver is marked "99 Type." Also stamped on the receiver are the royal chrysanthemum, serial number, and the symbol of the Nagoya Army Arsenal. The bolt handle, safety, extractor, and bayonet lug are matched to the last three digits of the serial number. All metal parts are blued. The wood is clearly stamped with the Nagoya Army Arsenal and Toriimatsu Factory inspection marks with the correct anti-aircraft wings.

Rating Definition:

Very good with approximately 85% of the original finish remaining. The floor plate exhibits smooth brown patina. The chrysanthemum is mostly complete, but has been defaced with an X. The wood is very good condition with clear inspection marks. A clear coating of lacquer has been applied over the original finish. There are multiple handling dents and bruises as are typical on Japanese rifles. An original cleaning rod is present, but it is from a short rifle.
