Description:

1) Second generation AN/PV4 (or5) night vision scope for an AR-15 or M-16 rifle. This is a passive device that uses available light such as city glow, moonlight, starlight or any other dim light source to create pictures of what is being viewed. The advantage of the passive device is that its range is less limited than that of the active device because it doesn't need its own light source and it's impossible to detect. The passive device was created during the Vietnam War to enable U.S. snipers to kill enemy soldiers. It is built around an image intensifier much like a television camera. Its circuits take small contrasts in light and dark patterns of whatever the lens is pointed at and boosts the light portions to about 64,000 times the brightness of the original picture. The image is placed on a TV style screen at the back of the scope. Comes with a carrying case with belt hooks and straps and four batteries. 2) Smith & Wesson Star Tron model MK303A passive night vision system, serial number W1968, with mounting bracket for mounting on an AR-15 or M-16 rifle. Rubber eyecup attached with screws. Manufactured by General Ordnance Equipment Corporation, a member of the Smith & Wesson law enforcement group. Complete with manual.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good plus. The nomenclature and identification plates have been removed, otherwise almost all of the finish remains and consignor states that it works fine. 2) Very good. Reportedly works fine, but no guarrantee. (Buyer will have to make own determination)
