This is a relatively rare Portuguese Model 1904 Mauser Contract rifle as manufactured by the DWM factory and was converted by the Portuguese Government to 8mm Mauser in order to closely conform to the new Model 1937-A Mauser rifles with a single common rifle round. This conversion consisted of reboring and rechambering of the barrel to 8mm Mauser, the addition of a new rear leaf sight based on the different ballistics of the 8mm round along with the addition of the new front sight protector ears as found on the Model 1937 rifle. The remaining components, stock and handguard all remaining the same as originally found on the 1904 rifles. The top of the receiver is marked with the large "Crown over the intertwined C and I" signifying King Carlos the First of Portugal and the receiver side wall is marked with "ESPINGARDAPOETUGUEZA 6.5 MOD 1904, over DEUTSCHE WAFFEN UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN". The rifle is complete with the original cleaning rod, leather sling and original German made (numbered and matching) bayonet scabbard and leather frog.

Excellent overall with 97% plus blue finish showing minor wear on the edges and high spots, along with some thinning on the barrel bands and exposed section of the barrel. The stock and handguard are both original to the rifle and have a nice matching dark brown color showing minor handling marks and surface scratches in some places overall with just a couple of deeper marks on the right side in front of the stock bolt probably just from sitting in a rifle rack. The Bayonet and scabbard are in the same matching condition with 95% blue overall with an excellent leather front nice and supple just showing some minor cracking on top of the loop. The rifle has all matching numbers to include the bayonet. The sling is dark with a some what oily finish and shows normal use. Just an excellent all matching Model 904/37 Portuguese rifle.
