A) Brevete 1851 Navy Model Percussion Revolver

Description:

The top barrel flat is very faintly marked "--ADDRESS COL SAML NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" with "crown/N" and "crown/D" proofs on the left side of the barrel lug and "star / H" proof on the right. The crown proofs alternate on the cylinder squares. The cylinder is roll engraved with a similar navy scene found on Colt Model 1851s and has the Liege "ELG" in an oval proof. Brass post front and hammer notch rear sights, iron trigger guard and backstrap and one-piece grips.

Rating Definition:

Refinished with the metal surfaces exhibiting a smooth artificial brown patina mixed with a few large areas of smooth silver patina. There is pin prick pitting. The cylinder engraving is very faint. The grips are fair. The action rotates, but is stiff and needs work. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from Antique Traders (April 1959).

Description:

The top barrel flat at the breech is spuriously marked "COLTS" and "crown/R" and "star/N" are marked on the right side of the barrel lug. An additional "crown/R" is marked on the right side of the frame and "54" is marked on the lower right barrel flat. Plain 5-shot cylinder is marked with various illegible proofs. Iron trigger guard and backstrap, brass pin front and hammer notch rear sights and smooth one-piece grips.

Rating Definition:

Poor with the metal surfaces exhibiting an artificial dark mottled patina and some pin prick pitting. The grips are very good with some minor scratches and nicks and light bottom edge wear with a few minor notches. The action rotates, but is stiff and out of time. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from Antique Traders (April 1959).
