Description:

There were several copiers of the Colt Dragoon during the Civil War. This particular revolver is marked "ARMY & NAVY C. S.L. LONDON" on top of the barrel and "1818" or "8181" under an arrow pointing down with an upside down stylized "U" on top. Other than the "London" marking, the original origin of this revolver is unknown. There are no other visible markings on the revolver. Smooth trigger and hammer, square cylinder stops, cut out frame on the right side without a capping groove and a smaller odd shaped grip frame than the dragoon with two piece grips and butt cap with lanyard ring.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The metal surfaces have been cleaned to a gray metal with numerous minor dings around the wedge area and some minor pitting overall. The grips are good with minor handling marks and a hand rubbed patina. The grips are a bit loose and ill-fitting. Most of the screw heads are marred. The action is good. From the Will Hoffeld collection.
