Description:

This revolver is a copy of the Colt 1851 Navy Revolver with British proof marks. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line New-York U.S. America address (marking uneven). The left side of the barrel lug at the breech and the cylinder shoulders are marked with the "crown / V" and "crown / GP" proof marks (larger than normal). The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS (slanted) / PATENT". The loading lever is marked with a crossed pennants proof. The left shoulder of the trigger guard is marked "36CAL". The cylinder is roll engraved with a naval battle scene and marked "COLTS PATENT NO 1307". The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame and trigger guard. Brass post front and hammer notched rear sights, round iron trigger guard and back strap and fitted with smooth one piece walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

About good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with some scattered minor pitting and a number of small dents on the top barrel flat at the breech end. The action needs work, the cylinder moves freely in either direction and it does not cycle when the hammer is cocked. The grips are about good with small chips on each heel, some lower edge wear, a couple of minor gouges and a few minor dents and dings. The cylinder scene is visible and the proofs and markings are readable. From the Will Hoffeld collection.
