Description:

Manufactured in 1858 this Model 1851 revolver falls into the serial number range for the Early Fourth Model and subsequently the barrel has been shortened to its current length of 3 3/4". The loading lever has been retained and shortened. It features silver plated brass round trigger guard and back strap, hammer notch rear sight and percussion shield cut-out without a capping groove. The added brass blade front sight has obscured some of the barrel address marking: "DRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.--". "COLTS PATENT" is marked on the left side of the frame, "K" is marked on the left trigger guard bow and "M" is marked on the left trigger guard shoulder. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and "J.F. McC" is marked in script on the butt. Matching serial number stamped on the back strap, cylinder, frame, barrel and trigger guard. The partial serial number (7310) is marked on the loading lever. The wedge is marked "3580". Fitted with smooth one-piece walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Good as shortened with the metal surfaces exhibiting a smooth dark patina. The brass has a smooth aged patina. The grips are very good plus with some minor handling marks. The cylinder engraving is clear and sharp. The action is very good. From the Will Hoffeld collection.
