This was the most plentiful of all the Colt percussion revolvers with approximately 325,000 produced from 1850 to 1873. This revolver was manufactured in 1856. The top barrel flat is marked " ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY" in brackets and "COLTS / PATENT" is marked on the left side of the frame. Stagecoach holdup scene roll engraved on the 5 shot cylinder and walnut smooth grips. Brass pin front and notch hammer nose rear sights, small iron trigger guard and iron back strap. According to P.L. Shumaker in COLT'S VARIATIONS OF THE OLD MODEL POCKET PISTOL, 1848 TO 1872, only 125 of these revolvers with the small iron trigger guard and two-line New York address were produced (page 75). Matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial serial number (2891) on the loading lever.

Rating Definition:

Good with the metal surfaces exhibiting a dark mottled patina. The cylinder engraving is faint. The cylinder will not advance. There is a slight chip on the bottom left grip edge, otherwise the grips are very good with some minor handling marks and light bottom edge wear. Mechanically functions, but is out of time. From the Will Hoffeld collection.
