The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene. The barrel has a brass pin front sight and is marked "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" on the top flat and a faded "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame. The caliber marking is on the left trigger guard shoulder. The full serial number along with the "L" suffix is stamped on the trigger guard, frame, barrel and back strap. The partial serial number (5977) is on the cylinder. The loading lever is marked "077". Fitted with varnished one-piece grips.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces exhibit a smooth dark patina with light-moderate pin prick pitting overall. The cylinder engraving is partially worn smooth. The revarnished grips are about good with traces of varnish. There are two large chips on the bottom edge of the right grip. The butt has a series of moderate nicks and pressure dents with a carved "X". From the Will Hoffeld collection, purchased from John Fox at the Las Vegas Show in October 1995.
