Description:

Manufactured 1859 to 1868 this revolver falls into the Series III serial range and was subsequently converted to the 38 centerfire cartridge. The rear of the cylinder has been cut off and a breech plate and hammer centerfire firing pin added. The loading lever has been remover with holes filled and an ejector rod and housing similar to the Colt Model 1851 Mason ejector has been attached to the right side. The cylinder is roll engraved with the standard decorative oval panels with military and naval scenes. The top barrel flat is marked with the standard one-line Newark address. The sides of the barrel at the breech for 2 1/4 inches, the area around wedge, hammer, back strap and frame are scrolled engraved with punch dot background. The back strap is also engraved in script "CJF". Fitted with one-piece checkered ivory grips.

Rating Definition:

Period replated with approximately 70% of the flaking nickel patina remaining with some minor flaking and light edge wear. The ejector housing exhibits a mottled silver-gray patina. The cylinder engraving is very faint. The grips are fair with a mellow yellow aged patina and some hairline cracks on the butt. The checkering has been worn smooth. The action is good. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
