Description:

Produced mainly in Belgium, the term "Brevete" can be applied to any revolver made in Europe under license by Colt using one or more of their patents. The top barrel flat is marked "COLT / BREVETE" at the breech. The 6-shot cylinder is roll engraved with a Federals battling hostiles scene and marked with a Liege "ELG" in an oval proof and a "W". The cylinder is also marked in script "colts patent". The left side of the barrel lug is marked with a "W" and the matching serial number on the barrel, frame and trigger guard with an "NM" ahead of the barrel number. The barrel has been shortened to its present length and a brass post front sight added. The loading lever has been removed. Fitted with smooth one piece walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Fine as modified. The barrel and cylinder retain approximately 70% of the bright blue with some minor pitting and spotting. The frame has mottled gray patina with some minor pitting on the right side. The trigger guard and back strap have a 50-50 mix of aged patina on exposed brass and original thinning silver plating. The grips are good with numerous minor dents, dings and scratches including the bottoms. The white highlighted markings and the cylinder scene are crisp and clear. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
