This a very rare factory engraved Remington mid-production Type I O/U Derringer with the manual extractor and marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y. / ELLIOT'S PATENT DEC. 12TH 1865" on top of the barrel rib. The sides of the frame, back strap and rear of the upper barrel are factory engraved with a simple scroll pattern. The hammer, extractor, trigger and screws are blue, the frame, and barrels appear to have been possibly silver plated at one time. The derringer is fitted with smooth rosewood grips.

Good. All metal surfaces have a gray patina with scattered overall pin prick type pitting. The serial number on the barrel has been stamped over another number to match the frame number "3314". The grips are very good with minor handling marks. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. The action is fine.
