A) Bruce and Davis Double Barrel Percussion Pistol

Description:

Believed to have been manufactured by Allen & Thurber, these pistols were sold by Bruce & Davis, arms distributors in Webster, Massachusetts during the 1850s. The 4-inch, rifled, side-by-side barrels have a tube beneath the barrels that retains a wooden replacement ramrod. "BRUCE&DAVIS CAST STEEL" is stamped in the sighting groove between the barrels. The numerals "14" are stamped in the ramrod channels between the barrels. One percussion nipple is a replacement. The top barrel rib is stamped "NB. 1858" and the left barrel "P.M." The side plates are decorated with simple scroll engraving. Fitted with bag-shaped grips.

Rating Definition:

About good with the metal surfaces exhibiting a gray mottled patina and some pin prick pitting. The grips are good with some minor scratches and dents. The engraving and marking are clear. The action is fine. Purchased from Parke-Bernet LA 1987. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from Parke Bernet in 1987.

Description:

Unmarked 16 gage shotgun barrel with notch rear sight on rounded iron unmarked frame, shotgun style center hung hammer similar to the type used on Marston single shot pistols and fitted with replacement bag shaped two-piece smooth walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

About good with the metal exhibiting a smooth dark patina and some scattered pitting. Replacement percussion nipple. The slightly ill-fitting replacement grips are very good with some minor nicks on the butt and some light handling marks. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld collection, purchased from Frank Sellers in 1987.
