Class: Antique
Description:

Marked "PATENTED 1837, CAST STEEL" on one of the barrel ribs. None of the usual Allen marks appear on the pistol, indicating that it was made for one of Allen’s distributors. Features German silver escutcheon on each side of the smooth bag shaped grips and simple scrollwork on the frame.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces exhibit a brown mottled patina with a smooth dark patina on the trigger guard and front grip strap. The escutcheons have been cleaned at one time and are now beginning to age again. The grips are very fine with some minor scratches and nicks. The markings are legible. The engraving is clear. Mechanically needs some work.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel exhibits a mixture of a smooth dark patina and a dark mottled patina. The rest of the metal surfaces exhibits a mottled gray patina. There is a large chip on the left grip near the frame, otherwise the grips are very good with some minor scratches and a few moderate dings and dents on the butt. The markings are very faint. The engraving is beginning to fade.
