A) Allen & Thurber Double Action Bar Hammer Pistol

Description:

Introduced in the 1830's, with production running through to the Civil War era. Manufactured without sights. The left side of the bar hammer is marked "ALLENS PATENT" and ""ALLEN & THURBER" on the top barrel flat. Scroll engraved iron frame and fitted with smooth two-piece grips.

Rating Definition:

Partially refinished with most of the current blue finish remaining on the barrel with some light handling marks. The frame exhibits a smooth silver patina. There is limited pin prick pitting. The grips are good with some light varnish flaking, some minor scratches and a few minor nicks. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld collection.

This is an example of a Marston bar hammer pistol with the following trade or brand name barrel marking: "THE / WASHINGTON / ARMS CO.". Scroll engraved iron frame and fitted with two-piece smooth ivory grips.

Rating Definition:

Good with the metal surfaces exhibiting a mottled dark brown patina and some pin prick pitting. The grips are very good with some vertical hairline cracks. The markings are very faint. The action needs work as the trigger does not engage the bar hammer. From the Will Hoffeld collection.
