Produced between 1887 and 1910, the Number Three Target was Smith & Wesson's first handgun purpose-made for target shooting. Paine bead front sight with adjustable notch rear sight fitted to the barrel latch. Rib has the two line address and patent markings, flanked by Maltese crosses. Matching numbers on the barrel, latch, cylinder and butt. Casehardened hammer and trigger guard, smooth trigger and checkered two piece hard rubber grips with Smith & Wesson imprints and matching number on the inside of the right panel.

Excellent, with 90% of the original nickel finish. Some frosting has occurred on the frame, with flaking to a bright steel on the front of the frame, muzzle and high edges, along with scattered pitting, spotting and handling marks overall. Grips are very good, with an internal crack in the left panel, light pressure dents and a fine mixed aged color. Traces of the original color are visible on the casehardened parts. Mechanically very good.
