Description:

Introduced in 1879, the various Japanese Contract versions of the New Model #3 are often outfitted with a Russian-style guard spur and lanyard swivel. Pinned blade front and notch rear sights on the barrel, with two line "REISSUE JULY 25, 1871" markings flanked with Maltese crosses, with a pair of Japanese symbols scratched into the side plate and the "anchor and waves" naval mark on the underside of the frame. Interarms import marks are present on the left side of the frame near the barrel lug. Cylinder and latch numbered "9481", with the serial number and lanyard ring on the round butt and smooth walnut grips. Examples of Japanese Marine Issue Smith & Wessons are very seldom ever seen.

Rating Definition:

Likely Japanese "arsenal" refinished, with approximately 60% of the blue mixed with a brown and gray patina, scattered spotting and scratches, and pitting concentrated around the grip straps. Grips are battered and chipped. Mechanically needs work.
