Description:

Produced between 1905 and 1945. Twin ivory bead sights on the matte rib, with a silver bar insert ahead of the breech, "CHROMOX FLUID STEEL" on the right barrel and "MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA. U.S.A." on the left barrel, with two inch long wedges of scroll engraving with matte backgrounds on the sides of the chamber. "FOX/ PROOF" on the underside of the chambers, with "4" on the underside of each barrel. 2 3/4 inch chambers, with the chokes measuring full and modified. Patent markings on the water table with a "D" stamp, casehardened frame with extensive leaf and floral engraving, "ANSLEY H. FOX" banners on each side, scenes of birds in flight on either side, a dog flushing birds on the underside, and gold inlaid safety marking. Double triggers with a blank initial shield on the trigger guard, tang safety and automatic ejectors. Checkered fancy walnut pistol grip stock, with an ebony forearm tip insert, engraved furniture (extending onto the concealed areas), checkered grip cap and a Pachmayr Old English solid rubber recoil pad.

Rating Definition:

The barrels may have been professionally refurbished at some time and show 99% of the blue finish, with a brown patina visible in the lower areas around the rib, minor handling marks and dings overall. A mixed brown patina is visible on the frame, with bright color on the water table and in the protected areas. Stock is very good, with a slightly oversized recoil pad, tiny chips, mild pressure dents and strong varnish. Mechanically excellent. A beautiful example of the work of one of America's most highly regarded arms manufacturers, and chambered in 20 gauge. Reportedly only 2839 Philadelphia 20 gauge guns were made and only 49 were "DE" grades.
