Description:

Edwin John Churchill served his time with William Jeffrey & Son and was famous as a pigeon shot. The firm is best remembered for its 25" barreled guns introduced by Robert Churchill in the 1920s. The firm is still in business in West Wycombe, England. This shotgun features a silver bead front and ivory mid bead sights on the matte solid rib marked in gold inlay "XXV" at the breech end. The top of the right barrel is marked "CHURCHILL (GUNMAKERS) LTD." and the top of the left barrel "ORANGE ST GUNWORKS, LEICESTER SQUARE, LONDON.". The scalloped receiver and trigger are casehardened and the remaining metal surfaces are blue. The receiver, trigger guard, forearm hardware, break lever and tangs are engraved with fine scroll and floral patterns. Each side of the receiver is marked "CHURCHILL" in a banner and the bottom is marked "THE / REGAL". Chambered 2 3/4", choked cylinder/improved cylinder with ejectors. Single trigger marked "MILLER" on each side, automatic tang mounted safety with gold inlaid "SAFE" and mounted with an extra fancy English walnut checkered forearm and straight grip stock with tear drop flats, silver initial oval on the bottom and a solid red Pachmayr Old English recoil pad. Complete in a brown leather bound hard takedown case with leather corner protectors, key lock, duo straps and maroon wool lining with a gold embossed E.J. Churchill leather label affixed to the inside of the lid. In the case is a two piece cleaning rod, a leather bag with cleaning rod ends, a nickel oiler marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the bottom and two nickel snap caps.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. This shotgun retains 98% blue finish with some thinning on the lower tang and trigger guard. The receiver retains approximately 75% bright original case colors with the balance having faded to a smooth gray. The wood is very good overall. The forearm is possibly a refinished. The checkering is slightly different and the grain of the wood and finish differ as well. The forearm hardware is serial numbered to the gun. The stock finish is beginning to show the normal stress cracking. The edges of the flats remain crisp and all of the checkering remains crisp. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with a few minor scratches and minor edge wear on the exterior. The lining is excellent with one small hole and minimal wear. The accessories are all very good.
