This large flintlock pistol has no visible markings and features a 12 3/8 inch smooth bore 70 caliber barrel, engraved lock and hammer, brass blade front, brass trigger guard with decorative finial, relief chiseled brass buttcap extending up the sides of the grip area and brass ramrod ferrules with a false ramrod (part of the stock). Iron left side plate, hammer, frizzen, flash pan and spring. Mounted with a full one piece stock with a replacement forward metal barrel band and a decorative cast silver thumb plate.
Good. The iron parts have a mottled gray patina with some scattered minor pitting on the barrel. The brass has an aged patina. The rear trigger guard tang has a break and both sides of the buttcap extension have a break. Both remain secured to the pistol, two were repaired at one time and then separated again. The stock is good with a minor crack on each side ahead of the side plates and several scattered minor dents, dings and chips. The stock remains solid. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
Manufactured circa 1810, the lock is marked "JACOB RESOP / unreadable", the top, breech end of the barrel is marked "JACOB / RESOP" and the bottom of the barrel is marked with British proofs and "STUBBS". All iron mountings and wooden ramrod.
Good. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with some faded original case colors on the lock plate behind the hammer. There is minor pitting covering the trigger guard and some minor pitting on the lock and barrel around the flash hole. The stock has been freshened and remains very good with sharp edges on the flats and some minor dents and scratches. The action needs work. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
