Description:

This is an exceptionally nice example of a Colt Model 1905 pistol. There were less than 6100 total made over a period of six years with this specific pistol being made in late 1907. These models are a very important collection piece as they represent Colt's semi-automatic pistol entry using the New Powerful "45ACP" cartridge. This model eventually lead to the development of the successful Model 1911 series of pistol. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in front of the ejection port. The left side of the slide is marked in two blocks: "PATENTED / APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905." and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The serial number is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. The upper left trigger guard bow bears the Colt "VP" triangle proof and the lower is marked with a "1". Early round spur hammer version with half-cock notch and casehardened finish. The remainder of the gun is finished in the standard Colt high-polish blue, except for the trigger, extractor and magazine release, which are a fire blue. The grips are checkered walnut with the diamond pattern around the screws.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, with approximately 98% of the bright original high polish blue finish overall with a few extremely light scratches on the grip straps, with some very light wear on the front edges of the sides of the slides. The grips are excellent plus with nice original checkering overall showing just a couple of minor pressure dents on the very bottom of the left grips with no noticeable wear on the sides at all. The hammer retains 98% of it's original color case hardened finish with nice vivid color on both sides with just some minor wear on the face of the hammer. A really nice example of very scarce early production Colt Model 1905 semi-automatic pistol.
