Stock: walnut

Description:

Fixed sights on a rifled octagon barrel with three sections of floral engraving alternating between two sections of three floral engraved bands. The lower buttplate tang features a floral engraving around the screw heads. The rifle is actually a three quarter scale version of a period Pennsylvania or Kentucky rifle. Marked "T / KETLAND / & Co." on the lock plate. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th century. This is obviously the reason here as the rifle is of American manufacture. Brass furniture including the forend tip, tiger stripe full length stock with checkered wrist, brass patch box, silver plated star insert on raised cheekpiece and wood ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Good. The iron components exhibit a mottled gray patina. The brass exhibits a smooth aged patina. The insert retains most of the silvered out plating. The refinished/reoiled stock has a large piece replaced in the comb with some minor scratches and nicks and a few minor dents. There are some moderate scuff marks in the overall sharp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear.
