Description:

This percussion rifle is marked "REMINGTON" and has a scene with a hunting dog and geese on each lock. The upper barrel is 40 caliber rifled and the lower is a 56 caliber smooth bore. Dovetailed brass blade front and fixed iron rear sights. Wooden ramrods on each side of the barrel. Double set triggers and straight grip stock with a brass square bottom trigger guard, shadow cheekpiece with brass elk inlay, brass patchbox and brass cresent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrels have brown patina with heavy flash pitting at the breech ends. The hammers and locks show heavy wear and have a smooth mottled gray patina. The brass buttplate, patch box and trigger guard have mellow patina. The stock is in good condition with a few minor dents and dings. The right hammer does not hold the cock position, the left side action works fine. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.

Description:

The top of the barrel is marked "P. A. REINHARD LOUDONVILLE 026 / ASHD CO . 1886". The lock is marked "LEMAN / LANCASTER PA". The muzzle is cut for a starter and is equipped with a brass blade front and fixed iron rear sights. Double set triggers and mounted with a straight grip half stock with a pewter forend cap, brass trigger guard, cheekpiece, brass patchbox and crescent buttplate. There is a silver inlaid plate on the left wrist which is engraved "Gotliel Koch" in script and an octagon silver plate on the cheekpiece with a bulls head engraved on it.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel has been cleaned bright and has some heavy flash pitting. The bolster and nipple show some pitting and appear original to the gun. The lock and hammer have a gray patina with some minor pitting on the forward area of the lock. The brass has an even pleasant natural aged patina. The stock is very good with scattered minor dings and dents.
