Description:

German silver and brass blade front sight and notch rear sight on the barrel, with casehardened breech and tang and fenced bolster with cleanout screw. The lock is marked "GEO GOULCHER" next to a scene of a hunter in the woods, and a scroll engraved hammer. A base for a peep sight is present on the tang, and the rifle is equipped with double set triggers. Smooth straight grip maple stock, with a hardwood ramrod, pewter tip and extensive German silver finished engraved furniture, including a scroll engraved plate on the underside of the forearm, oval escutcheons, diamond and heart patterns on either side, shadow line cheekpiece with engraved border and a Federal Eagle, engraved patchbox, and engraved panels on the comb, underside, and each side of the curved buttplate. With an additional barrel, octagon, 33", with a brass front sight and notch rear, 40 caliber.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel has a strong brown finish, with a bright gray patina on the high edges. A mixed blue and brown color is visible on the lock. Stock is very good, with mild varnish loss and scratching. Mechanically fair.
