Description:

A predecessor to the Colt Model 1911, this Colt Model 1905 pistol was manufactured in 1909. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" ahead of the ejection port. The left side of the slide is marked with the two line, two block address and patent dates, with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The upper left trigger guard bow bears the Colt "VP" triangle proof and the lower is marked with a "6". Later style hammer with half-cock notch and casehardened finish. The remainder of the gun is finished in the standard Colt high-polish blue, except for the trigger, extractor, slide stop, and magazine release, which are a fire blue. Checkered walnut grips with the diamond pattern around the screws.

Rating Definition:

Fair, with traces of the original blue finish, strongest in the protected areas on the frame and barrel. The forward portion of the slide and frame is pitted extensively. A mixed brown and gray patina with pitting is visible overall. Grips are fine, with moderate pressure dents and scratches. The barrel retains 95% blue. Action is excellent. This 1905 definitely suffered from poor storage, but still is a solid example.
