Description:

Manufactured circa 1850s. The lock, hammer and barrel tang are engraved with a floral scroll pattern. The left side plate, trigger guard and a decorative plate on the bottom of the forearm are nicely floral scroll engraved. The left side of the buttstock has a silver running Greyhound and a hunting dog, the bottom has a hunting dog on point, just behind the barrel tang is a head of a horned animal and the right side has an oval decorative, engraved patch box.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The forward half of the barrel retains much of the original brown finish and shows most of the Damascus pattern. The rear half of the barrel has been cleaned bright. All of the silver has an aged patina. The stock is very good as freshened. There is a minor fill in repair at the upper barrel tang, a minor crack on the left flat and minor dents and dings. The edges of the flats remain sharp and the checkering is sharp. Purchased from Tom Ballard in 2002 and part of the Will Hoffeld collection.
