Description:

This is a nice example of a circa 1830-1845 percussion underhammer target rifle that was made/marked "E.K. LIVERMORE" on the left hand side of the barrel. This rifle would probably be considered a lightweight boys or buggy size target rifle as it has a considerably smaller 28 inch barrel measuring only 1.25 X 1.0 inch, breech to muzzle with an unmarked octagon pattern receiver. The barrel has six narrow lands and wide grooved rifling. The right rear side of the barrel is marked "REMINGTON / CAST STEEL 7 1/2 " . It has the typical spring steel triggerguard bow that also acts as the main spring with no forend with a very nice example of an English walnut stock with a well executed fine-line checkered pattern on the pistol grip and grip cap area. It is fitted with a traditional early pattern target buttplate. The top of the barrel only has a single front dovetail that currently has an old Stevens type adjustable scope ring mounted there. The top of the tang has a single smaller hole that probably held a single post peep/aperture rear sight with a larger threaded hole behind that which probably held the adjustable rear scope base and ring assembly (which is missing along with the scope). It is complete with the original false muzzle and brass bullet starter.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with mottled brown patina finish overall, showing wear and thinning in areas. The stock is in excellent condition and showing a very nice English walnut stock with nice checkering. The action functions correctly and from what this describer can see, the bore looks good.
