Allen & Thurber Single Shot Side Hammer Muzzle Loading Rifle

Manufactured from the 1840s to the early 1860s, this rifle features a brass blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights, no forearm with a wooden ramrod mounted under the barrel, floral engraved action and smooth buttstock with a crescent buttplate. The left barrel flat is marked "ALLEN & THURBER / WORCESTER". Estimated production was only a few hundred.

ConditionGood. The barrel and buttplate have a brown patina with some scattered minor pitting on the barrel. The action and trigger guard have a gray patina with some flash pitting on the frame, bolster and hammer. The stock is very good as freshened with a few minor dings and dents. The marking is crisp and clear. The action is fine. Purchased from the Earl Wollman estate in 1977, part of the Will Hoffeld Collection.
