Description:

World War II production M1A1 Thompson Submachine Gun. The M1A1 was introduced in April 1942 and was a simplified version of the M1928 Thompson Submachine Gun. The M1A1 eliminated the barrel cooling fins, Cutt's compensator, adjustable rear sight and removable butt stock found on pre-war Thompson Submachine Guns. The M1A1 has a fixed rear sight, horizontal walnut forearm, fixed butt stock and side-mounted cocking handle. Internal modifications made the weapon cheaper and easier to manufacture. The original M1A1 has a parkerized finish on the barrel and receiver. The left side of the receiver is marked: "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER 45 M1/NO. 656923" in three lines below the rear sight. The right rear of the receiver is marked: "AUTO ORDNANCE CORPORATION/BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT U.S.A." in two lines. "US PROPERTY" is stamped on the top rear of the receiver behind the rear sight protector The lower trigger housing and butt stock group is correctly marked with the "AUTO/SINGLE" and "FIRE/SAFE" markings along with serial number "570428". The receiver and trigger housing serial numbers do not match. This SMG is complete with four 30-round magazines, one 20-round magazine and a green canvas sling. This complete set is housed in a hand made double drawer carrying case that houses the complete barrel and receiver group in one drawer with the lower receiver/butt stock group and magazines in the second drawer. This weapon is a fully transferable class III weapon that has the appropriate ATF/Federal Tax stamp. This is a Class III weapon, check for legality in your location. 30 round magazine for the Thompson M1A1 included with this lot.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The submachine gun has been re-finished to a high polish blue. Some pitting is visible beneath the blue finish on the left side of the receiver. The receiver and trigger housing markings are clear. The edges of the receiver show evidence of polishing. The stock and forearm have been re-finished. The spare magazines are in very good-excellent condition and the storage/carrying case is excellent condition. This is a very good example of a re-furbished WWII M1A1 Thompson Submachine Gun.
