Marked "US / I.N. JOHNSON" on the lock plate in front of the hammer, "MIDDTN / CONN / 1853" vertically at the rear. The date on the barrel tang cannot be read and the left rear of the barrel is marked "US / SK / P". Brass mountings, blade front sight, swivel type steel ramrod with a button shaped head and mounted with a one piece walnut stock with "LK" and "WAT" cartouches and a brass buttcap. Approximately 10,000 of these pistols were manufactured 1853-1855.
Fair. The refinished barrel has an artificial dark patina with scattered minor pitting. The hammer, lock plate and barrel tang have a mottled gray patina with some light pitting. The brass has been polished and shows scattered minor dings. The stock is very good with a few minor dents, dings and scratches and faint, but legible cartouches. The markings are light but legible. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld collection.
