Operating out of Washington, D.C. from 1802 to 2001, M.W. Galt and Brother were involved with fine silver, jewelry, swords and pistols, counting Presidents and First Ladies among their clients. Silver blade front and notch rear sights on the barrel and tang, with "P" flanked by zigzag lines on the upper left flat of the breech, "DERINGER / PHILADELA'' on the top, and "MADE FOR / M.W. GALT & BROTHE / WASHINGTON D.C." on the barrel, with a pair of decorative cuts in the top of the muzzle and a pair of 18k gold bands bordering the short breech. ''DERINGER/ PHILADELA'' is also marked on the lock plate, flanked with scroll engraving. The buttcap is fitted with a cap box, with blossom engraving on the lid. Coin silver fittings, with floral blossoms on the escutcheons, pineapple on the trigger guard finial, floral design on the buttplate, and a border on the shield escutcheon with scrollwork matching the lock on the hammer, tang, trigger guard, accent plate and reverse plate. In addition, a fish scale pattern is present on top of the hammer and a smooth triangular escutcheon inlayed into the tip of the checkered birds head stock.

Very good plus. The barrel shows a mixed gray and brown patina, with some light handling marks overall. A bright gray patina has formed on the lock and tang, with a darker finish on the hammer and a small chip absent from the wedge. Stock is fine, with exception of some minor cracks throughout and tool marks on the right escutcheon. Action is finer.
