Description:

Born in Ireland and operating in Philadelphia from 1837 to 1852, Charles Curry sold arms in San Francisco from 1852 until his death in 1863, becoming sole West Coast agent for Deringer in 1858. Brass blade front and notch rear sights, with a zig-zag flanked "P" on the left side of the long breech, "DERINGER / PHILADELA'' on top and "C.CURRY / SAN FRANCo CALA/ AGENT" on the barrel. The Deringer marking is repeated on the lock, with scroll engraving on the tang, hammer, lock, German silver reverse and accent pates, with blossom designs on the escutcheons, zig-zag bordered buttplate, pineapple finial, and a silver plate on the trigger guard inscribed "J. Lemon" next to a square and compasses symbol with "G" in the center. Checkered stock with a silver wedge inlay in the Schnabel tip and a bird head butt. No information on J. Lemon has been uncovered as of this writing, but further research could turn up something interesting.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel shows mostly a brown patina finish, with the start of a bright gray patina showing on the high edges and in small patches on the sides and top. The casehardened parts have turned a gray patina. Fine silver, with a reddish patina around the wedge and a few light scratches. The stock is good as re-varnished, with a pair of small cracks and minor chips on the left side near the escutcheon and reverse plate, and a few scattered light pressure dents.
