Description:

Six-shot English bar hammer, double action revolving pistol with case and accessories. The pistol has a fluted, six-shot barrel cluster, full nipple shield, bar hammer with slide safety and full trigger guard. The one-piece stock is finely checkered English walnut and fitted with an iron butt cap with hinged trap. The stock has an oval german silver thumb-piece inlaid below the receiver tang. The barrel cluster, frame, hammer and butt cap have a dove-gray casehardened finish with delicate blue, purple and brown case colors. The trigger, trigger guard and safety bar are a high polish niter blue. The pistol is decorated with delicate English scroll engraving on the nipple shield, sides of the receiver, bottom of the trigger guard and butt trap. The barrel muzzles, sides and top of the hammer are engraved with subtle geometric patterns. The maker's name and address "SHARP/MAIDSTONE" are engraved in a panel on the left side of the frame. "IMPROVED, REVOLVING PISTOL" is engraved in a panel on the left side of the frame. Each barrel is numbered and "English Crown/V" and "Crown/P" proof and inspection marks are stamped in the flutes between each cylinder. The mahogany, English style, case has seven compartments including one with a lid, and is lined with purple velvet. Accessories consist of: (1) copper, bottle-shaped flask with adjustable spout, (2) pewter oil bottle, (3) tin of 250 percussion caps, (4) blued, single cavity, round ball, bullet mold, (5) six .44 caliber lead balls and (6) four-piece, casehardened screwdriver and ramrod. The case has a brass inscription plate in the lid. .

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel cluster, frame hammer and butt cap have 75% of the original color casehardened original finish. The delicate case colors in the barrel flutes show most of the blue-purple case colors. The sides of the receiver have silvered slightly but retains at least 95% of the case hardened finish. The trigger guard and safety bar show 80% of the original niter blue. The one-piece walnut grip is in excellent condition with excellent checkering and very minor handling wear. The action functions perfectly. There is minimal evidence of flash-pitting on the percussion nipples and flash shield. The case is in very good condition with light handling wear. The lining is slightly faded, torn along the edge of the revolver compartment and has rubbed through in one spot below the pistol muzzle. There is a compression mark in the lining of the lid opposite the nipple shield. The powder flask, bullet mold, cleaning rod and oil bottle are all in very fine condition, showing light handling wear. This is an exceptional example of a high quality English double action, bar hammer revolving pepperbox pistol with case and accessories.
