Description:

Manufactured from 1860 to 1873 with a total production of about 2,000, this distinctive revolver was the design of Joseph Rider of Newark, Ohio. The distinctive features of this revolver are its five-round mushroom shaped cylinder, double action mechanism and straight trigger. It was one of the first double action revolvers made in quantity in the U.S. Marked "MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS ILION. N.Y. / RIDERS. PT. AUG. 17. 1858. MAY 3. 1859." on top of the barrel. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame ahead of the trigger and on the bottom barrel flat. The trigger guard is German silver, the hammer and trigger are casehardened and the remainder of the gun is blue. The revolver is equipped with a brass front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with two piece checkered grips. Complete with a pasteboard box, two round cavity brass unmarked bullet mold and small brass powder flask with eagle shield / crossed pistols motif.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and cylinder have a smooth mix of original blue and plum patina. The frame has a smooth brown patina. The trigger guard has an aged patina and the hammer and trigger retain about 50% of the original vivid case colors. The grips are excellent with some sun fading, a few minor dings, a pin head size hole in the bottom of the right side and crisp checkering. The box is good with light repairs, stains, and wear and with separation at the edges. The mold and flask are good with aged patina on both and several small dings and dents on the mold.
