Description:

Remington Rifle Cane (a.k.a. "Cane Gun") with large dog head handle. The black, gutta percha, rifle cane is chambered for the .32 rimfire cartridge and is 33-inches long with a 25 3/4 inch barrel. The rifle has the large, detailed, dog head handle with a brass, silver plated band below the dog head. The handle is marked with the first style markings "REMINGTON & SONS/ILION , N.Y./PATENT FEB'Y 9, 1858" in three lines. The serial number "470" is stamped on the handle just above the collar and on the cane body directly below the handle joint. The cane is complete with a fitted wooden case with beveled edges and blue velvet lining. The case contains a brass cartridge extractor and a wooden fifteen cartridge block complete with seven .32 rimfire cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The black gutta percha handle and body have faded slightly and have some very minor scratches. The dog's head is in excellent condition with crisp details. The collar has traces of the silver plated finish and the Remington markings are light but legible. The case is in very fine condition with wear limited to compression marks in the cane recess. This is a very fine example of a scarce and desirable Remington Rifle Cane.
