Description:

This trap gun was made for the positive destruction of gophers, squirrels and rats. The animal pushes the brass plate which discharges a 38 Smith & Wesson blank cartridge killing the animal by concussion. Marked "PAT. OCT. 17-22" on the top of the frame, with a 2 inch iron barrel terminating in a solid end, with a hole drilled in the bottom for gas to escape. The frame measures 6 1/2 inches in length, with a 1" planting wedge on the end with the firing pin, an exposed sear on top next to the trip plate. A hole for affixing a trip line is bored into the top of the trip plate, which pushes down the hinged, spring loaded sear to release the pin and fire the blank cartridge. This is purely a noise maker.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel and breechblock show a dark, rough, heavily pitted appearance, with a brighter mixed gray on the sear and firing pin, with some minor pitting. The brass shows a mixed patina overall, with some light handling marks. Mechanically fine.
