OE - GOOD - some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

PRF - PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED OR RESTORED

Description:

Manufactured between 1865 and 1866. The rifle has a blued barrel, casehardened barrel band, receiver, lock plate, lever, buttplate and an oil finished black walnut stock and forearm. Fixed front sight and Lawrence patent rear sight. The barrel ring is marked "R.S.L." on the left. The barrel is marked "SHARP'S RIFLE/MANUFG. CO/HARTFORD CONN." in three lines in front of the rear sight and "NEW MODEL 1865" behind the sight with "NYE" on the left at the breech. The receiver is marked "R.S. LAWRENCE' PAT./APRIL 12th 1859." behind the hammer and "C. SHARPS' PAT./OCT. 5th 1852" in the middle of the lock plate on the right as well as "NYE" vertically ahead of the hammer. Marked "C.SHARPS' PAT/SEPT. 12th 1848" on the left side of the receiver with Lawrence patent marks on the rear sight.

Rating Definition:

Very good arsenal refinished with approximately 40% of the dull arsenal refinish remaining on receiver, scattered areas of light pitting on the barrel have been covered with black paint, possibly in attempt to prevent further oxidation. Forend and butt stock are very good, small chips on bottom at wrist, scattered pressure dents and handling marks. Mechanically fine.
