Description:

London marked, Civil War era, ivory-mounted field glasses. The field glasses have carved ivory tubes, focus wheel and eyepieces with a gold plated brass frame. The brass frame is finely engraved maker's name and "London" address. The field glasses are approximately 4-1/2 inches long with the eyepieces fully extended and have a 2-1/4 inch diameter objective lens. These are very high grade European field glasses. Ivory mounted field glasses of this quality are rare.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The ivory tubes and eyepieces have a mellow age patina. The gold plated brass frame retains most of the original finish. The field glasses have age cracks in the ivory tubes and eyepieces. There is some age discoloration on the lower portion of the lens tubes and both the lens are dusty. This is a rare, very attractive set of high quality, London marked, English field glasses. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
