Description:

Measuring 10 inches in length, with a sharpened 5" back clip, marked "MURRAY/ AND/ GRAY Co" in a box next to "VR" on the right side of the ricasso, "R. MOLE" and "1863 EX" on the left. Gray in this case is John Gray, a manufacturer operating in Georgia who made everything from rifles to tent components for the Confederacy, with John Murray serving as a foreman or subcontractor in Columbus. Robert Mole & Sons operated out of Birmingham, and was chiefly a supplier of swords and cutlasses. Dual quillion guard, turned up and down, with smooth round scales secured with rivets. With an unmarked brown leather sheath stitched with brass wire. In fair condition, with some etching and pitting on the blade, along with areas of dark patina. Grips are good as freshened, with traces of a checkered pattern, mild scratches and a few pressure dents. Sheath is fair, with some discoloration of the leather and verdigris buildup on the tight stitching.
