The rifle has the standard "Tryon / US" marking on the lock in front of the hammer, "PHILADA / PA" vertically behind the hammer above the date. "U.S. / NWP / P" is stamped upper left at the rear of the barrel and "308" is stamped on the left rear flat. Two inspector cartouches "JJL" and "WAJ" are stamped on the left stock flat. The buttplate tang is marked "308" and the patch box lid is marked "No 9". The barrel was brown, lock and hammer casehardened and the mountings are brass. The rifle is complete with a "U.S." marked angular socket bayonet and a brown leather sling. The patch box contains a ball extractor, nipple and nipple wrench.

Rating Definition:

Good as partially restored. The barrel has a smooth dark mottled patina with some minor flash pitting on the barrel and bolster. The lock and hammer have a smooth gray mottled patina. The brass has an even aged patina. The stock has been reoiled and some small areas sanded and remains solid with a few minor pressure dents in the buttstock and limited scattered minor dings. The cartouches have been crudely recut in order to enhance these appearance The bayonet is good with a copper colored patina and some light surface oxidation. The sling is good with some minor age cracks and the leather remains supple. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
