This is an example of a late WWII German 98 rifle. The top of the receiver ring is marked "ce / 44" and there is the German firing proof above the marking and on the left side of the receiver ring and barrel. The right side of the receiver is marked with a "eagle / 280" proof mark. The left receiver wall is marked "Mod 98". The top of the barrel at the breech is marked with a script "ce". Equipped with a hooded front ramp sight and military tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The bolt handle, safety lever, floor plate and bolt are numbered to the gun. The rifle is fitted with the correct laminated pistol grip stock marked with an eagle proof over "H" on the right side and a bright steel cupped buttplate. The rifle is complete with a leather sling, cleaning rod and 10 inch bayonet, (numbered to another gun), matching metal scabbard with a leather hanger.

Excellent. The rifle retains approximately 95% of the faded thin original finish with some thinning on the receiver and a couple of minor scratches on the barrel. The trigger guard and floor plate have a smooth blue/brown patina. There is some minor flaking and spotting on the front barrel band. The stock is excellent with a few overall scattered minor dings and dents. The sling is very good. The bayonet and scabbard are excellent.
